Out through the village, back by the fire

Guided rides through the rice fields, evenings around the fire pit, and slow afternoons at the lodge between game drives.

Two ways to meet Mto wa Mbu

Mto wa Mbu is a busy market town at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment, surrounded by rice paddies and banana plantations. Our local guides know every path, and they love showing it off.

Rice fields and a banana plantation, by bike

Set off with a guide along the farm paths around Mto wa Mbu. You ride past flooded rice paddies under the escarpment, through a banana plantation and into the local market, stopping as often as you like for photos and a chat.

Go early while it is cool, or late for the golden light on the way home. Would you rather explore on your own? Bikes are also available to hire.

Maasai campfire evening

Stories, drums and dancing under the stars

When the sun drops behind the escarpment, the fire pit is lit. Maasai hosts tell stories, then the drumming starts and the dancing follows.

It is our favourite way to end a safari day, and it is free for everyone staying with us. Ask us which nights the campfire is on during your stay.
